I highly recommend a trip to Nancy's Sewing Basket . . . it's in the area of Seattle called Queen Anne, which is close to the Space Needle. It's not a very large store, but they always have some fabrics to die for . . . and best of all is the "ribbon room" . . . It's a small room in the back that has some truly unique trims . . . occasionally they even have turn-of-the-century trims that make contemporary trims pale by comparison.

I've been to the store the other person suggested and I agree that they have wonderful fabrics and a great ribbon room but the staff left something to be desired. I'm able to get to Seattle about once a year and make it point to get to the Queen Anne district but every trip leaves me with another unhappy experience with the staff.

If you enjoy outdoor type fabrics try Seattle fabrics. They have a great website that can give you directions.

Hello, Thank you for the hint regarding the staff. I shall go with my pattern, have a list of questions written and see if I have better luck. Also will go to Seattle Fabrics. It sounds interesting also. Amapola

In the beginning fabrics http://www.inthebeginningfabrics.com carries every kind of quilting fabric, but they are sadly going to close their retail store in April - so it depends when you are coming....  For yarns for embellishment, try the Weaving works http://www.weavingworks.com .  A more general store that is a good local chain is Pacific fabrics http://www.pacificfabrics.com.  If you were going to be in the Seattle area this weekend, Mar 2-5, I would highly recommend that you attend the sewing expo in Puyallup - largest in the US...  http://www.sewexpo.com
