Sewing a shirred dress

Bassan | Posted in General Sewing Info on

Hey, I am trying to make a shirred dress for my granddaughter. I tried winding the elastic thread around thebobbin with my hand, and set my straight stitch at the longest length. The elastic thread would not hold, it kept breaking loose. Is there anyone to tell me what I did wrong. Thanks so much, Bassan

Do you use a zig zag machine?

I find zig-zag-ing over a length of dental floss, and then drawing up the dental floss to the desired length to be very effective.

This does NOT result in extremely, tiny, very fine, gathers, as you might want on baby clothes, but it does a nice job of gathering for many projects.

Gail, thanks a lot. I will definitely try that. I thought about zig zaging, but did not think about the dental floss. Will let you know how it came out. Thanks Bassan

Did you bypass the bobbin tension setting or have an adjustable bobbin case?
