I am always looking for fabric and pattern options for my boys ages 6&8. Any help would be appreciated. So much out there girls, but not much for boys, maybe the pattern companies will listen and give us some choices other than sweats and baggies.

I make my boys ages 7+2 lots of comfy pants. I just fold a pair of their favorite pants in half the long way and cut 4. It takes about half an hour or so to make up a pair. You can add patch or on seam pockets.
I made dress pants for son #1 out of a thrift store velveteen skirt. My baby likes colors so his have been on the bright and wild side. My guys like loose and baggy so that's what I make out of soft fabrics.
*Check out the next-to-last issue of Threads for some great mail-order fabrics for Kids. I ordered the swatch book from the Canadian source and it has lots of boy's prints. Also, Pitter-Patter Patterns (also Canadian) has some fun boy's patterns and outerwear, also try Burda patterns.
*Don't forget polar fleece. Most boys I know love polar fleece pants like sweat pants. ANd polar fleece vests. They can make them for themselves if the color is appealing ie camo.
*Carolyn, have you tried Kwik-Sew ? Their home catalogue contains many patterns for boys, all ages, and you can order them by phone too. They have a web site : http://www.kwiksew.com
