Sewing for the sight impaired

My mother, a professional seamstress all her life, has lost much of her vision due to macular degeneration. She still wants to sew, but is having a difficult time. I would appreciate knowing about aids and techniques that she might find helpful.

I feel for your mother. I have had my share of eye problems and have sewn through them. At the present time I can now see better then I ever could. Four surgery have helped.

Please tell me how or what your mother can see. What works for her, and what type of sewing she is interested in and then I'll write you back again.

*I have no personal experience of this, so I held back, but I believe Bernina make adaptations for their machines to cope with various disabilities.I am sure they have a gadget to prevent fingers from getting under the needle, and probably some kind of seam guide that works by touch rather than sight.
