Sewing home decor/draperies

alotofstitches | Posted in Quilting and Home Decor on

Because of disappearing fabric stores I’m sewing very few clothes and feel the need to focus more on draperies/home decor.  If any of you ladies do this as a living I’d love to hear from you especially on pricing.  I’ve always sewn by hour and now I need up front pricing.

I have just started sewing custom curtains for people. I have found that it is quite a busy opportunity. Pricing seems to depend on how hard the product is to put together. such as i recently did a bay window and so it was quite more costly (I usually do most of my stuff on boards) so then I had to figure angles and cut boards accordingly. Ask around what others charge and maybe ask friends and family if they agree with your pricing suggestions. It is difficult in the beginning but I am starting to catch on myself. Good luck and enjoy!

I have a custom drapery workroom and am happy to discuss pricing information with you.  Email me privately at [email protected].  There are some incredible networking groups for this trade.
