Sewing in NYC

S_R | Posted in The Archives on

Hi all!
I’m extremely new to sewing and I don’t own a machine. I’m eager to learn, however, and am needing some advice.

Should I take some basic sewing lessons first and then purchase a machine based on that? Does anyone know where I can find a good class here in NYC?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Be well,
Shana

    Hi

I have been playing with sewing for 10 years, but I am new to NY(long island for myself. I have been told that there are very good courses at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Their web page is http://www.fitnyc.suny.edu/.

I would suggest that you take a course first(anyplace that offers sewing classes SHOULD have (if they are any good) a bank of sewing machines for students to use and should also let you use them not just during class time.

Just as on any machine that you use often, you will discover that after use, you have some VERY strong preferences.

    good luck
