sewing on mirror-dot fabric

Does anyone have tips for sewing that mirror-dot fabric? When I used the kind that had the dots glued onto stretch velvet, it was tough to work with, as the glue got all over my needle, and it would occasionally skip. We ended up having to hand-sew the whole garment.
