sewing techniques and design seen in RTW

fabricholic | Posted in General Discussion on

I was in my favorite store last night to see what was new and also, how they sew the RTW styles. I saw a very cute denim blue and white striped stretch jacket, no lining, just seam binding sewn over the inside seam edges. Anyway, it had tiny buttons up the front and about 4 or 5 tiny buttons on the bottom of sleeve. I saw a lot of pintucking with the sheer fabric, can’t recall what it was, not chiffon, though. They would use a simple satin chemise under it. I saw lots of skirts with the godets at the bottom and some godets were boomerang shaped on the sides at the bottom. I saw a white button down blouse with an inset on the front, also in white, that was textured fabric. Has anyone else seen the new or even new to you, styles in RTW that we can copy?

Oh Marcy, I must confess I check out my faves and see if i can copy them too. It is great when I go on holiday with my mother-in-law with me to guide me. I have lots of questions for her, "how easy would this be", "what fabric is it". "which sections are sewn by hand, if any at all". the list goes on. We have fun together too and then browse the pattern books to find similar.

I love most of alanah hill designs. Girly vintage look with lots of silk, satin, lace and sheer fabrics, crochet cardi's, brocade and boucle coats.  I don't accessorise with the knee high stockings or veils as shown in http://www.alannahhill.com.au/

My other fave is Kookai, they have cottons and sheers, and a very well presented website, giving fabrics chosen for the designs. http://www.kookai.com/

I've even thought about trying on the garments and taking pics with my phone of certain aspects of the garments so i don't forget how they are put together. I know it's being naughty, and heaven forbid, breaks all copyright laws, so i haven't done it.

I like the taupe polka dot dress with the ruffles on the bottom from the first website and the plaid top from the second. I like Alfani, Jones New York, Bandolino, Charter Club, some Ralph Lauren, International Concepts, Michael Kors, Seigrid Olsen, and Liz Claiborne. That is what they carry at my store, so that's all I see. I guess my very favorites are Alfani and Bandolino.Marcy
