Sewing with lace

justsew | Posted in General Sewing Info on

Hello,

Does anyone have any tips for sewing a scalloped edge in delicate lace to make a tablecloth?

The lace is going on top of an antique dinner table, with a custom glass topper made to protect the lace.

It is just for looks, while dining.

thanks

I'm not sure what you have in mind, but this is how I was taught to add lace to a tablecloth or other lace.

Take the main part of your tablecloth (the center) and over lay the scalloped lace onto it, matching patterns if need be.  Pin in place and hand sew.

    Good luck!

If you have a serger you can use a flatlock stitch to sew on the lace.

      Hi there,

You know, I have owned my serger a long time but have never flatlocked anything.

The customer wants a scallop hemmed edge on the lace. Maybe I can try that stitch on a sample scrap of her lace.

      thank you!  Judy
