Sewing World?

Rosemarie | Posted in The Archives on

Is Sewing World down again? I tried it last night and then again today — but it had been several days since I was last there. Anyone know what is happening?

*Just using http://www.sewingworld.com doesn't seem to work. I did search through all my bookmarks (*note to self -- need to organize about five hundred bookmarks* *will do, in free time*) and did find the following that does seem to work:http://www.sewingworld.com/bbcgi/Ultimate.cgi?action=intro&BypassCookie=trueDoes anyone have a better URL?Oh, Darlette...do you think that they have "pulled the plug" on the old Sewing World? :-(

*Darlette & Rosemarie - I think I'm having withdrawal symptoms. Thanks for the alternate URL. I was able to get in on Friday but not since then. I do hope they have not closed down the "old" SW yet. I have been checking both old and new SW but do prefer the old so much more. Again thanks. Ginna

*You can also go to the new SW with this URL:www.sewingworld.com/newsw

*Darlette and all - Maybe Scott & Krista went away for Thanksgiving. As I remember the site went down once before when they were away. It took a couple of days after their return before everything was back up. I emailed them last Sunday or Monday but have heard nothing in return. Hopefully they'll have the site back up in a couple of days. Ginna

*Ginna, I e-mailed them too. It seems incredible that their site is down and they don't know it. I can't imagine being the owners of such a site and allowing this to happen!! (especially since it has happened before) That's what happens when you have a monoply (well, it might as well be!), I guess.

*My question is, who pays for this site? It's not affiliated with any organization as far as I can tell, and it doesn't have advertisements. If it's just a server in their basement, and they pay for it out of their pockets, then it makes sense that it would be subject to more problems. But then I run into the question of what the motivation is. Do they just love to sew? It's such a huge site they must have sponsors, or something, right? Does anyone know anything about this? Thanks.

*Apropos of a Thread on the old SW, the one concerning Sandra Betzina's reduced number of shows on HGTV, and a proportional increase of other types of show: I just saw a teaser for the Carol Duvall Show, which is evidently quite popular. For this one, she chirped, "You won't want to miss our next show! We're going to show you how to make ornaments that look like sushi, and we have some new ideas for pine needles!" AAAAARGH!!

*Scott & Krista do pay for the site themselves. They created it out of a love for sewing and computer knowledge. They spend a great deal of time keeping the old system up and created the new system to be more stable. HTH.

*I quit subscribing to Sew News because of the pine needle factor. Not that they every had any specific pine needle crafts, but I did not find it to be a fashion magazine for sewing, as it bills itself. Back to Scott and Krista, the Sewing World site is amazing, and to do it for love is really cool of them.

*OH MY GOSH....I first thought my filter was messing up my ability to access SW...it's been testy before, but then I decided it must be down. I don't even go there that often and YET, I wanted some info and when it wasn't there, I surely missed it. Thanks for the alternate URL. I hadn't tried the NEW one yet because I assumed I'd like the old one better, plus I didn't think they'd transfer all the old posts...is that right? So, I needed the "old" info so never ventured...well even thought I don't go there that often, it is a wonderful sewing site...glad to be a part of it as a browser! MERRY CHRIST MAS....merced, ca.

*Got tired of waiting and have started up Minott Method Discussion on new SW. Hope the archives have not been lost forever - aaaaargh!!!!!!!! It's hard to figure how the owners of SW could let this happen. Or if they know it happened why they have not posted a message. Very strange and very annoying. I know it's free to us but they got us all hooked and now we feel so abandoned!!!! Woe is us.

*Folks, there is at last a message at the old SW saying that it is just down for cleaning and maintenance

*I saw that message too. I hope that means we will be able to use the archives as well. Lisa
