Any cool places to find fabric and notions besides the chain stores?

I used to find good fabric and bargains years ago when there were manufacturers in my city. I guess they've all moved to China. I found things in rooms adjacent to a drapery company, a dress company, coat and suit mfg., and a children's clothing company. Check the area around you and see if you can find any mfg. Sometimes big companies send their stuff to out-of-the way towns. I'm not talking about those big outlet malls.

http://www.equilter.com is in Boulder.  They have wonderful fabrics, Luanna Rubin started this business about 10 years ago so she could stay home with her children.  They are online only, but have excellent customer service, you can reach them by phone.  I have been very happy with all I have ordered from them.

There are alot of quilt shops, but it's hard to find nice clothing fabrics.  Go check out http://www.tactilearts.org in Denver that I haven't gotten downtown yet to see.  The info is on the website.  The owner had a wonderful shop in Cherry Creek (D'Leas) so I expect this place should be great.
