I’m looking for information on how to reduce the height of collars on both one piece and two piece (stand and rest of collar) collars. I have several alterations books and none of them address this issue.
Thanks for your help!

Can you give me more information? Are you just looking to reduce the width of the collar? Because it seems like that pattern correction would be easy. Simply slash the collar pattern through the center and overlap it the amount you want to reduce the width. True up the pattern after of course. And this alteration doesn't effect the neck width of the collar so you're guaranteed that the new collar will fit into the neck of the blouse/top/jacket.
Does that answer your question?

I do the same thing, that's a reliable method. I get desired results everytime. remember if you have an extra piece to attach the collar onto before you attach it to the body, you should make sure the collar is still long enough to cover that when the collar is folded doward. right now I forget what the name of that piece is, its like the yoke that a shirt collar is attached to prior to attaching that yoke to the shirt.

Thanks for calling this out- I forgot to think about collar roll height.
Make sure that when you slash and close/overlap the collar pattern, that the collar, when rolled back, will cover the neckband at least 1/8."
Think of it this way... if the inner collar roll height, measured from the inside neck seam to the top of where collar rolls, including neckband is 1 3/8," then the collar outer roll height, measured from the collar outer edge to the top of where collar rolls, should measure 1 5/8". This will ensure that the neck seam is covered when the collar is rolled.
I hope this makes sense. Feel free to ask more questions if you still have them
Sincerely Always,
Maddie
