shoulder/sleeve help needed please.

KOETTING | Posted in Fitting on

Hi-
I am clueless in this field, so I am hoping to get really simple instructions, if there are any, to help me alter a short sleeve shirt.

Here is my problem…

This is a store bought shirt, and it is to big for me in the
neck to shoulder area. The shoulder droops low, giving the shirt the appearance of being way too big. (I like the rest of the shirt.)

The shirt is button down, with a shirt collar. It’s a pretty basic linen camp shirt.

Is there an easy way to shorten the distance from the neck to the shoulder/sleeve seam?

Has anyone tried a dart in the back of the shirt to pull the fabric in, thus pulling the shoulder up? Or is this just a crazy idea I came up with?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks-

Kris

Would you be comfortable taking the sleeve/body seam out and trimming the excess off the top of the shoulder and then resew the sleeve? (Remember to leave seam allowance.) The ease in the top of the sleeve cap might change (tighten) a bit but by your brief description I pictured a looser fit and so the sleeve cap reposition shouldn't make a huge difference.  You will need to shape the trimmed area but as long as you're willing to experiment it should go fine.  That's an easier "trim" than trying to narrow a shirt across the bust...
