Silhouette Patterns

user-474140 | Posted in Patterns on

I was excited to find Silhouette Patterns, since they include sizing by cup size. But, when looking at the two patterns for tops that caught my eye, I ran into a conundrum. First you choose full bust circumference, and THEN you can choose cup size. But this just repeats my usual problem — I end up buying a pattern that is HUGE for me everywhere except at the full bust. I am a newly returning sewer, so am I missing something here?

Write to Peggy Sagers from Silhouette patterns, and ask her about what size to get, she is very helpful and knowledgable about this. She will be glad to wirte back and help you

First of all with Silhouette Patterns it is not a matter of which pattern size to buy as they come multiple sizes included as well as the various bust variations.  I was quite pleased with the denim jacket pattern and I am also one that is quite difficult to fit.  The one area that you may really want to pay attention to that I had forgotten was the bicep area.  I lift weights and have really well developed biceps that I can not fit in RTW so I had forgotten to make that adjustment to the pattern but after making the adjustment everything fit wonderfully. By the way which 2 patterns are you looking at?  I really don't think you are going to have as many problems as you may think.

I have been looking at the blouses. I like the new one, designed for knits, called Dana's Top, but of course fitting is a whole other issue with knits. I am also looking at Alex's Blouse, which has a princess line and the No Gap Vest, since in my life so far, there has been no such thing as a no gap vest! I am glad to hear such a positive review of the patterns.

I just took a look again at the patterns and I really don't think you will have a problem. I would go with the high bust measurement if that is bigger than your waist measurement.  That is the only area that would cause you any fits. Also remember with Peggys patterns that you are not using sizes but ease of wear. The first thing the pattern is going to tell you is to compare your favorite garment measurements for the wearing ease. That will more than anything tell you what you need to do with the pattern.  Good luck.
