Hi,
I’m sewing a Burda dress pattern, which has separate pattern pieces for the short sleeves and long sleeves. I had planned to make long sleeves, made my fitting changes on the pattern, but then realized that I was short of fabric, so got out the short sleeve pattern piece. I laid it over top of the long sleeve to trace the alterations. I am now really confused – shouldn’t the only difference between the two pieces be the length? There are distinct differences in the shape of the sleeve cap between the short and long sleeve patterns – and NOT due to alterations I have made They are VERY different, and yet, both have to fit into the same armhole. I have never noticed this before. Has anyone encountered this? Thanks for your help!

Grace,
Is there any difference in the fit of the short vs. long sleeve? For example, is the long sleeve very fitted, and the short sleeve only moderately fitted? This could be the reason for the difference in shape. As long as the measurement for the sleeve cap of the sleeve is the same on both sleeves, I think there should be no problem with it.
*Thank you Shannon. That does make sense. :-)Grace
