Small/sway back adjustment

gal | Posted in General Sewing Info on

Could someone give me some quick ideas on making a small/sway back adjustment for a jacket (Loes Hinse Tuxedo jacket). This is a continuing problem that I need to face! Thanks for any help.

I reshape the center back seam to imitate, (not hug,)  the curve of my back.  Often, I have to start very high and very, very  gently taper toward the waist and then curve back out to accommodate my butt.  Just a slight bit of shaping to that seam makes an enormous difference in comfort and appearance  in a loose fitting jacket. If there are darts, they will probably need to be sculpted also.  I avoid jackets with 1-pc backs because they just don't hang well on me.  The mere presence of the center back seam with very little tweaking hangs better.  I just serged some seams in the back of a heavy cardigan sweater a few minutes ago.  It's still loose, but I look 10 lbs. lighter.

Thanks for your advice - a nice simple fix! I'll give it a try this weekend.
