Many years ago I had a pattern for a small continous bias scarf that would pull over the head and just lay at the base of the neck. It was called a smoke ring scarf. I have since lost it. It was a tricky way of sewing it that I can’t remember. Does anyone have the directions for such a scarf?

Virginia, it seems to me that a scarf like this was the cover article in a Threads magazine a few years ago, but I don't have the details.
*I will look to make sure, but think I have directions & maybe pattern as well for "smoke ring scarf"...like one you ask about, but don't remember being any "trick" to sewing it, of course that may be due to "bad memory".
*If you have Threads #60 (Sept. '95) There is a bias cut scarf pattern on pg 54...more on pg 74. If you don't, send me your snail mail address and I'll be happy to copy them for you.
*Yes, there is a trick to where the opening is to be able to turn it right side to... I've lost my pattern too! I will have to check my back issue of Threads for the bias one--seems at the time it was not the "smoke" ring version.
