I have finally decided on the Viking Designer 1. Now I am trying to figure out the software. It looks like you have to buy a package of software that is for several machines, but all you need for the D1 is the Disk Manager, right? Is there a way to buy the Disk Manager without the whole package? Or, is there some other software that will work on the D1? I want to be able to download designs off the web, not draw my own.
Thank you for your help.

Although you can purchase the whole suite which will have all the software you will ever need and that is the cheapest way to buy the software you actually only need the Customising programme. The customising programme contains disk manager so that you can convert hus embroidery format to shv format which the machine will read. There are cheaper alternatives to Husqvarna programmes Embird being one of them. I personally only have the older version of customising and the digitising software and use Embird and Brother software for digitising as I found that more user friendly.

Hi,
Can I use Embird instead of Customizing Plus, or some other Hus. software? I am looking for a cheaper but legal route to start with.
Thank you,

No you will need customising plus Embird will not convert the files so that the machine can read them. Unless of course you only want to buy designs in shv format. That will be from Husqvarna or some online designers but not all of them. I would suggest you at least get customising plus or look out for a secondhand version of system 5 (the previous software which I still use, however make sure you get the dongle with it which will only fit a parallel port and it should also have a little metal disc inside it)

When you get your D1 the price should include the Customizing program with the disk manager as there almost nothing you can do without the customizing and disk manager. When you start wanting to add names and other sayings to the original designs you will understand the importance of having the programs.
