southern textile mills

Welsh | Posted in General Discussion on

We’re planning a trip to the south (Georgia & S.Carolina) and was wondering if there are any textile mills, ones with factory outlets, left in the south? I’ve been trying to find something on the web but have come up empty.

When are you planning on going?  I am going to N Carolina in July so I will check things out with the locals and see what they say.  If you go before me please let me know ASAP.  Thanks

We will be going to Georgia & SC mid June again to SC in August.  Dalton, Georgia is the carpet capital of the world if you need carpet, area rugs, flooring. Looking for furniture? The Carolinas are home to some furniture manufacturers. If I do run across any fabric/textile outlets I will let you know.  I live near Pittsburgh, PA & there isn't anything around here in the way of textile outlets.

If you are in Danville, VA, Dan River Mills has an outlet store. I was just there recently and they have bundles of fabric, sheets, comforters and many other things. The store is near the mill. I don't know the address.

Thanks for the info! I'll see if we can swing past there on our trip. If you think of any other sources please let me know.  Thanks again. :-)

Here is some info on the outlet.  I called customer service & was informed that they only have bedding (sheets, conforters, etc.) at the outlets, no fabric, glad you told me other wise.  I need fabric for home decorating, draperies mostly. Did they have anything like that?

I saw pillow shams. They may have home dec fabric, I wasn't looking for decorator fabric and could have certainly have missed it. They had lots of sheets.

In the back were two boxes of assorted fabrics rolled in bundles for $5 each. I bought two and will make shirts for the men in my family. The fabric is suitable for clothes, nice quality.

I am just now getting around to this particular "thread" (I love it, a Threads thread).  I was re-reading a couple of my older Threads, and the back story was about a group of women who went on shopping excursions to an outlet that was apparently from a clothing manufacturer as the writer talked about being able to buy garments in pieces.  The outlet was in North Carolina.  I remember reading it before, and enjoying it, but as I knew I was never going to NC, just left it be.  Now, I have a daughter (and perfect granddaughter) living in North Carolina (Fayetteville, husband at Fort Bragg) so, guess where we go on vacations?  I have really been wondering where the outlet was and if it is still there.  Hopefully, you will have found it for me!  My husband is really into building boats and has a couple of guys in that area that he chats with so we thought on our next trip, he could go do boat stuff, and I could shop for fabrics (especially since I say it is for Maddie, he is such a sucker).  I do hope you find some great places to go.

There's an Interior Alternative near where I grew up in Massachusetts, and my parents still live there, so I stop by once a year or so. I've always found it to be a great place to find decorator fabrics at very reasonable prices--some of which would also work well for fashion sewing. I believe there an outlet on Long Island, as well, in Jericho, for anyone in the NY area. I really don't like doing home decor sewing, but even I can get inspired there!

    No fabrics in Commerce, Ga.

Don't waste your time looking for a discount or mill end store for fabric here.  There is a store in Stone Mountain which has good sales from time to time.  It's called FABRIC WORLD and nothing is over $3.99 but when they get a new supply in is hit or miss but when they do it's GREAT!  other times it's pretty crappy.  They carry upholstery fabrics, trims ,wide foam by the yard and when they have their big new shipments you will find some high ends from last season.  I've seen Shumacher, Lee Joffa, Richland and many others I can't remember right now.  Their phone number is:  770-413-7655 Hours:  Tues thru Fridays 10 to 7 Sat....10 to 6 closed Sunday and Monday  1555 E Park Blvd., Stone Mountain, Ga.

    Textile Mill Outlets

Are there any textile mills in the US, let alone outlets for them?
