Stain removal on taffeta

Beanhi | Posted in Fabric and Trim on

When my friend’s lost luggage finally found its way home it was mysteriously soaking wet. She had bought a tafetta shirt with flower embrodiery while on vacation and now it has a large dark stain.

We can’t be sure what kind of liquid stained the shirt. I’ve suggested she dye it a darker color but the embrodiery would be a problem. Is her shirt ruined forever?

Thanks,
Nhi

Your friend should file a claim with the airlines!  I would be afraid to tackle cleaning it myself and would recommend that she take it to a reputable dry cleaners.  The embroidery might be a different fiber/thread than the taffetta.

I agree with Mimi. File the claim and then check to see if you can get a replacement shirt instead of trying to reclaim this one.  Make the airline pay for the replacement.

We've decided to turn it into a pillow or a bag. It's unfortunate but better than having it stashed in the closet.
