Static and Polyester

barbsewandsew | Posted in Fabric and Trim on

Just curious about syanatural polyester! My husband has a pair of ready made pants that he will no longer be able to wear because he was shocked all day yesterday while wearing them ! Maybe the humidity was low that day which is unusual here but a search for that fabric name turned up nothing! Just curious ! Barbara

There is a product on the market callled Static Guard that you could spray on in the morning that may help with the static problem building up.  Good luck I know how hard it is to go around getting shocked every few minutes.  You get kind of edgy.

A north wind will also stir up static electricity, sometimes to a nearly painful point. One way to avoid super-static in polyester is to hang-dry rather than machine-dry the slacks. A small amount of fabric softener in the wash cycle will help tremendously, too. Another trick I learned long ago was to apply a thin film of unscented hand lotion to my hands, then gently wipe the fabric (in my case, a skirt and/or pantihose) with my hands. There wasn't enough lotion to stain the fabric but enough to "calm" the fibers that collected the static.
