I don’t know if I should even be considering this, so I’ll lay out my plan to the group. I have acquired a set of outdoor furniture with no cushions so was considering making the pads and covers for the chairs and recliners.
If I take on this challenge, I though that I should use Sunbrella but have no idea what to use for the inside cushions that would be weather proof as the Sunbrella fabric. Also, while fiddling with this idea I came across Waverly Fabric for the outdoors, but have no idea if it compares to the UV rsistance of Sunbrella.
I have never worked with Sunbrella, so I would appreciate your comments and tips on working with this material. If you think this idea is nutty, I’m OK with that also.
Hi Almost, I have made cushions and covers for porch furniture using Sunbrella fabrics. The cushion design depends on the frame of the chair. Some of them have boards underneath and some have actual spring frames. I wasn't planning on leaving mine out in the weather so I wasn't as concerned about keeping the underneath cushion dry. As for sewing with Sunbrella, it is as easy as using any home dec fabric. Just make sure you use Sunbrella for the bias piping so they will hold up as well as the main fabric. I have made two sets of cushion covers and matching pillows so if you have any questions let me know? jane
