Supple waistband

sewfar | Posted in General Sewing Info on

Not that long ago either on this site or was it  the Threads e newsletter, there was a description of a soft supple waist treatment.  In essence several rows of narrow channels were  stitched and a narrow elastic was inserted into every other one.  I am at my summer cabin and the notes I took aren’t on vacation with me.  Can anyone refresh my memory of channel size, number of channels recommended and elastic used for the treatment.  I know it is intended for soft fabrics and I think it will be great for a skirt or loose pants for flying.   Thanks

I think there were 3 channels, only the top and bottom ones hold elastic. The channels are 3/8 inch, and the elastic was 1/4 inch. The empty middle channel allows the "waistband" to bend in the middle, thus is more comfortable and lighter.

I've used a similar idea - with the middle channel threaded with a drawstring tie, and the elastic used in the top and bottom channels a little looser than usual. I find the adjustable fit very comfortable.

That's it exactly.  Thanks so much.  Glad to hear that it really is comfortable to wear
