The “Don’t Bug Me” dress

imawoman2 | Posted in Photo Gallery on

Here’s a little summer dress I made for my 7-year old niece to wear to an outdoor wedding. I worried the entire time I was sewing that she would be too grown up to wear such a silly dress but having the little mouse hidden in a front pleat with the words “Don’t bug me!” gave her something to show off. I also sewed her name and a ladybug into the back inside neck to serve as her “custom label.” The crowning touch on this dress were her white tennis shoes that we covered with little sparkly crystals and shoelaces made of matching blue and white polka dot ribbons. The pattern is “Annie’s Sundress and Jumper.”

So darling!  What a wonderful memory she will always have of a special dress for a special occasson from a special someone.  Great conversation starter too, would help if anyone has a shy person out there to sew for.  Nice construction too.  Thanks for sharing.  Mary

Lynne, What a beautiful fun dress for her to wear to a wedding. I am sure it kept her from getting bored when all the festivites were going on. Can you tell me what type of fabric you used to make it ?    It looks like a cotton, but it seems to be heavier than your typical "quilting" cottons, I see so much of these days.

    Thank you, Jane

      Jane:

I wasn't sure if my reply to your post of yesterday actually got to you. I sent it directly to you but I found it in my email this evening. So I don't know if you got it. You inquired about the blue/white polka dot fabric and I said I'd be glad to send some to you if I can still find the flat folds of it at the warehouse where I bought it. I believe I paid $1.98 per yard for it and it comes in a variety of shades of blue as well as in an orange/red and black and white. It has a nice sheen to the cotton, doesn't shrink, and washes well. At $1.98 a yard, I felt pretty free to make lots of mistakes and just throw pieces away. If you want some, respond to me at [email protected] and I'll go shopping for you.

Lynne, thank you, email sent via regular email.  I think I will enjoy this fabric, I hope to make something for spring for both granddaughters. If I have extra maybe something for my grandson.
