Threads Archive unreadable

HoldenTodd | Posted in Techniques on

I purchased the Threads Archive thumb drive. When using the archive on my Windows 10 Pro computer the type in the magazine is missing parts of the letters making it almost impossible to read the text and thus making the archive useless. This appears to be a problem with the PDF reader in the Threads software since I can view the magazines files using an external PDF reader without encountering this problem. Because it is difficult to describe the problem, I attached a screenshot illustrating the problem. The .exe file on the thumb drive is My-Taunton-Collection-0.1.0.exe. I reported this to Tauton customer service on August 3rd but my message has been ignored so far. Does anyone have a solution to this? Thanks.

Please send another email to [email protected] outlining the problem. I will send a message to the Customer Service Manager asking her to be on the lookout for it. Thank you.

I have exactly the same problem. Having waited weeks for it to arrive when I came to open it it simple doesn't. Reading the HoldenTodd post from the 2nd August 2023 the problem is identical .

So Thread customer service what solution have you found?

I contacted customer service and was sent instructions that didn't completely solve this issue, but got me far enough that the archive is useful. I'm on a PC with Windows 10. Based on the instructions, which I will try to attach to this post, I downloaded an eval version of WinZip, and used that to access the zip file on the Threads 2023 archive USB stick. I extracted that zip into a folder on the PC, telling WinZip to skip over eight corrupted PDF files and continue extracting. After it finished, the subfolder called 'Assets' contained 216 usable PDF files that I could search using the windows file explorer, and eight 'corrupt' files, which I will ignore. I wish that Taunton would provide an uncorrupted USB stick, but this got me 90% of what I wanted. Hope this helps you.
