Tips

stillsuesew | Posted in Feedback on Threads on

I love the magazine and the variety that it has to offer all of us.  I appreciate everyone sharing their ideas in the tips section.  We can learn so much from each other.  But I was really surprised at the Best Tip in issue #150 – using pony tail elastics to hold bobbin threads in place.  I cannot imagine covering up each bobbin and having to remove those little things to find the correct color – even if they are color coordinated with the stored bobbin.  I must have 10 different blue bobbins.  One or two blue colored choices of ponytail elastic just would not do.  I have a couple hundred spools of thread and probably 50 bobbins.  I keep the threads by color in the boxes that checks come in and the bobbins go in the same boxes.  I can tell at a glance if I have the right color and a bobbin to match or one that will work for that job.  My bobbin tip:  I try to use up bobbins with a little thread left when I am making piping or cording for a  project where the first stitching line will not show in the final stitching.  These bobbins can be used in the bobbin case and in place of a spool when I am stitching the piping.  I may run out of thread often, but I am expecting it and each time I do I have freed a bobbin for another use.

    TIPS

I was thinking the same thing when I read the Best Tip.  I have a Bernina which came with a case to store bobbins.  The case has transparent "french doors" so that I can clearly see what colors are in there.  I use up my bobbins when making muslins.
