This is a laptop bag made from a Simplicity pattern (4391). I felt like making something fairly quick and easy today, and this fit the bill, although it’s one of those projects that involved way more cutting than sewing. Not the greatest photo, but ok for a cell phone camera.

Gotta love this place for great ideas! Your bag looks super and I love the mod fabric choice!
Gets me thinking: my niece has a birthday coming up. She's in college, uses one ALL the time and I'm thinking this may be a great gift idea. Especially since she's in Florida and I'm in the Northeast.
Any thoughts? Think this would appeal to a 20 year old college girl or are they too attached to what they find in the tech world?
Thanks!
I made this for my daughter who is 16, because she hates that the only choices in laptop bags are black. But for a college student I would probably beef it up with at least one pocket (this bag has none). At this age, my kid will always choose style over functionality, so it's perfect for her. One other modification I am planning is to add a soft pad to the shoulder strap.
Thanks for the photo. I'm going to make one for myself, and add a pouch/pocket for an accessory or two. The laptop bag I have now is a HUGE backpack affair. Yours is nice and compact. Washable? What kind of interfacing, lining, etc did you use?
Yes, I chose a washable fabric, and it is also lined with that fabric. The padding is a few layers of fleece interfacing (non fusible), and there is another layer of the stiffest interfacing I could find...I think it's called Timtex. The flap has a layer of canvas between two layers of fabric. I'm not sure how all these layers will react to washing.
It is very compact...it is made to fit a 14" screen laptop exactly. The pattern also includes instructions for a smaller laptop bag (11").
That is so cute and functional. I have noticed that all the bags are black and boring. Might be something I need to do for my daughter who attends college. Thanks for sharing the photo.Marcy
I like "Todays Project" I have to agree with how wonderful the fabric is. I am in the midst of making myself a handbag and guess what my fabric is very very similar!!! I love it.And I have to say there are days that I want to do is a very fun quick and satisfying project from beginning to end to give me a pat on the back for a job well done. We all need those kind every once in a while. I know your daughter will be the envy of all her friends and ya better watch out you may have more orders from them...Blondie
