Translating stretch pattern to woven

Meemur | Posted in Fitting on

Using the recent Threads issue, I am creating a pattern to duplicate a beloved pair of well worn pants.  The originals are made with a slight stretch.  While I have stretch fabric to create my first pair, I’d like to be able to produce the pants with a woven fabric too.

The pants are flat fronted, rest on the hips with a facing instead of a waistband.  They close at the side with an invisible zipper and have no pockets.

What amount of ease to I need to add … and where?

Thanks!

If the original had only a very slight crosswise stretch, you might be able to get away with adding 1/4" to the side seams; however, you might find that the woven pants aren't nearly as comfortable or as wrinkle-free as the original.

A lot of fabrics with a little spandex in them are available nowadays; those would seem to work best with this particular pattern.

Thanks for your response.  I have managed to pick up some nice wool/spandex crepe and will use them first.  I'll see how they work and then take your advice on adding the 1/4".

      Cheers.
