Tricky lining Help!!

nargp | Posted in General Discussion on

I’ve been asked to re-line a jacket, usually a straightforward job.  I’ve just got the jacket and the inside welt pockets on both sides are placed so that they overlap both the lining and the inside facing of the jacket fabric.  Most of the welt is made from the lining, the other bit from the wool jacket facing.  Can’t quite figure out how I would replace that pocket.  Has anyone encountered anything like this? It would mean trying to preserve the welt section made from the wool whilst replacing the rest.

Thanks for any advice!  Here is a picture.  Lining is on the right, wool facing on the left.

    Answer from Threads

Here is what Threads Executive Editor Judith Neukam has to say:

"Remember, you are replacing the lining, not the pocket. The pocket includes the welts around it. Carefully trim the old lining from the original welts and attach the new lining to the welt seam allowances as the original lining was attached. No need to replace the welt or welt fabrics."

    We hope this helps!
