Trouble with serger

Pearl5 | Posted in General Discussion on

Hello to all.   I have a Husqvarna Viking 910 serger.  After I threaded up today I found that the feed dogs will not advance the fabric.  I have experimented with the pressure foot and differential feed.  Zip.  I’ve tried different fabrics and re-threaded.  Any advice?

Thanks.

Pearl5, I would suggest checking the action of the feed dogs WITHOUT any fabric.  Do the feed dogs move when you depress the foot pedal?  If they are moving, then they are working correctly.  Is it a very small movement?  Then check and lengthen your stitch length.  I would suggest having your differential feed setting at the mid-range when you are checking things.  If the feed dogs do move, try changing the diff feed setting while depressing the foot pedal to see if the movement happens throughout the entire diff feed range.  Are you sure all of the openings are securely closed?? Usually, the serger won't run if the doors/covers are open due to the safety lock mechanism.  If it will do everything else except move the feed dogs, you may be in for a service call on it.  Good luck!

Does your serger work with the presser foot up?  My neighbor got a new serger (not a HV) and was having all sorts of trouble.  I brought it to my house and sewed and it was fine............she took it home and it did something similar to what you describe.  I brought it home again and had a thought.  Yep............she was sewing without lowering her presserfoot.  Boy!  Was her face red!!!!!  Her DH teased her about that one for a while!  Some sergers will work while the presserfoot is up and others not........just a thought and worthy of asking.

To Sunshine and Crazy K.  Thanks for your response on my serger problem.  I have tried everything you suggested but no luck.  I guess its off to the repair shop.
