trying some Threads embellishment ideas

user-474140 | Posted in General Discussion on

Hi,

I am not sure which category would be best for this message — it is about embellishment on clothing. I have two older issues of Threads (Sept. 98 and May 99) that I have drooled over for years, and have now started sewing again after many years. I was thinking of trying the Pin Tuck embellishment described in the article in Sept. 98, where she uses a double needle and pin-tucking foot to produce various designs — one on a velvet skirt that inspired me. I am about to start my samples and experiments, and would love to hear from anyone who has tried this technique.

haven't tried on velvet, but the pintuck foot for my Bernina works great for cottons and linens.

Try it on a scrap of velvet first - the pile is going to be pulled up in odd angles - see whether it is the effect you want before you get into the garment.

I tried pintuck on cotton lycra but was left with large needle holes and puckered up fabric when I had to undo a small area.
