I am trying to work out what type of silk I have. My DH brought back 3 pieces from China after a recent trip and 1 of them is perfect for a shirt/blouse. However, I have been unable to find any definitive references to silk types and want to identify it. I realise that this is hard without a actually seeing it, but I don’t think a photo would show much anyway.This fabric was bought at a goverment authorized shop,so is the real thing.
The fabric is really drapey and of medium weight,not at all see-through even though the background colour is nearly white. It has no shine except for a silk sheen. It is not a crepe as far as I can judge. The surface is quite smooth to the touch. Not knowing anything about the types of silk available, I am just curious as to what it is called.
While I am on the subject, I am also considering dyeing this length, as it is a bit ‘quiet’ for my taste (slightly off-white with pale blue sprigs of small flowers). Has anyone had any good experiences, and with what brand/type of dye?

Go to dharmatrading.com You'll find all kinds of information on silk and and dyes appropriate for it. They are very good at responding to emails for help on the subject too.
Thanks so much Sue.That is a fantastic resource site. As I'm in Australia, I might have to do a bit of searching, but DharmaTrading gives me enough information to know what to ask for.
