underwire alternative

friend | Posted in Equipment and Supplies on

Hello Everyone,
I am interested in making my own bra…I like the support of an underwire but am looking for a metal-free alternative. Does anyone know where I may find this?
Thanks!!

I have made three bras using Kwik-Sew pattern 2476. It calls for what ends up being four layers of fabric and two rows of stitching to reinforce under the cups. The instructions say to use seam binding, but I've used self-fabric strips with good results. This is absolutely the most comfortable bra I've ever worn. It has needed some tweaking for size and customizing the fit with each one fitting better than the previous one(s). It's also a lot of work with a lot of narrow seams through bulky layers, so can be frustrating and challenging even to an experienced sewer. I'll be starting on my fourth one soon and never going back to store-bought bras.

This thread last year had tons of general info about sewing lingerie. You will definately get inspired.
