Hello
I have been sewing for years . I have a number of dresses and suits that I have made myself over time in just great fabric silk wool etc.which I know I can not find again (unless I get to London or New York which is unlikey as I am now retired) My problem is that the suit or dress is not out of date in itself but the sleeves and shouldes are . They are wide high pad or gather caps. I know when I change the sleeve cap I will lose some fabric, but I have a deep hem on the sleeve, ( I always leave good wide seams etc) so this will help. Can any one help me on this as to how to change the sleeves.Maybe Threads would like to pick this up for subject in the magazine (which I have been reading for many years and love it) Please help

I often take sleeves off finished garments and re-cut them to a pattern I have that fits me well; however, this often necessitates changes in the shoulder and bodice side seams as well. Sometimes, by simply replacing large shoulder pads with smaller ones, I can get an updated look fairly easily; other times, it's almost like remaking the garment completely!
Thank you Tea
I think I will start by takeing out the seeves and cut the ones I want in muslin first, then see what I will need to do to the side seams etc. I have tryed puting in a smaller pad ,but to much room in the shouldes, and too wide ,would still need to fix that part. some of the dresses are evening ones, and if I can work out how to do it will be worth it
