want clothes to embellish

user-209603 | Posted in Equipment and Supplies on

Where can I buy blank clothing, children’s in particular, that I can embellish?  I do not resale or have a business license…I just sew for my daughter and my friends’ children.  I’d love to find denim apparel.  Thanks!

Does such a thing exist? There are lots of "blank" t-shirts - Hanes makes some at a reasonable price, good quality,

Most clothing is blank, especially denim.  I've embellished denim since the 70's.

Let me add that I am looking for things at "reasonable" prices and products that I can order.  It's not practical for me to search for things in particular sizes art resale/consignment stores like a lot of people do (my time is limited) or try to find brand new things that I don't have to pay a fortune for.  T-shirts are not a problem to find and , yes, there are companies that sale products like this; most of what I'm finding though does not sale to the public or you have to buy in large quantities.  Embroiderthis.com is an example of what I am talking about (they sell blank items with the intention for you to embroider) only, they don't offer the things that I'd like to buy.

I remember a catalog from years ago called Sunbelt clothing.  They sold a lot of plain clothing and I think some denim.  I cannot find this catalog now.  Maybe some of you remember this.

What an accomplishment to be sewing since the 70's.

Thanks in advance for any HELP you may have.

I find lots of nice denim items at the Army/Navy surpus stores and the Levi outlet for the grandkids.  Kmart has plain denim children's items.  Have fun, the kids love personalized clothing!

What types of embellishments do you like to do?  Mary

I love to do embroidery and add trims such as lace, ribbon and fur.  Appliques are the most fun.  I like to do seasonal outfits.  I also sew a lot of her outfits, but making blue jeans and overalls is not something I'd probably do.

The surplus stores are a great idea!  Thanks for your help!

Lots of people like http://www.dharmatrading.com/ which has lots of blanks.  You could even join a Yahoo coop like theJoyofSewing and get some quantity discounts if you are not in a big hurry.  There may be another one you might check out at that coop (NAYY).

Sorry, don't know if they have denim.

Dharma is a great suggestion for her!  I forgot about the cute knit clothes they have for kids!

I'm so glad you mentioned it as I wanted to show my grandkids where to look for techniques instructions and supplies online.  We bought a tie dye kit and still need to buy something to dye for each of the 3.  It should be fun to do together.  Thanks for reminding me!

Try http://www.shoppersrule.com - you can make offers on some items.  If you sign up as a member (no fee) they will e-mail you about specials.

Right now their special offer is on long sleeved tees and hoodies....all brand names.
