I read in a magazine about Eileen Fisher’s holiday velvets -maschine wash and tumble dry! Anybody know where I can get velvets like this per mail order? Thanks!

I have not seen the Eileen Fisher velvets. But I do dye velvets. I also machnine wash almost everything I own. It is possible to machine wash velvets -no I would not throw something with lots of structure and interfacing in the machine.
When I dye velvets, the only way to get the nap back is to put the fabric in the dryer. Actually , already made clothing, sometimes I machine wash and dry, and sometimes I hand wash and roll up in a towel to soak up most of the moisture and then I hang to dry.
I have found the machine washing unsucessful with some of my daughter's party dresses with very full skirts. There was too much stress on the seams -especially at the waist and I had to spend lots of time regathering the velvet by hand and resewing the skirt to the bodice.
The simple style of Eileen fisher clothes make them perfect to throw in the machine.
*Thanks so much for the tips! It just struck me as I read it that maybe that article (it was VERY short) was actually talking about fashions, and not fabrics! I didn't know Eileen Fisher was a designer, and that would explain why I haven't been able to find these velvets in the fabric stores! But you gave me really helpful info, which I'll certainly use when I choose a pattern and work with "regular" velvet. (Is there anything "regular" about sumptuous velvet?)
