Hello,
My name is Naomi and I occasionally sew fabric toys. I came across a McCall pattern for cloth rabbits which called for “doll beads” to be used in the feet for stuffing.
What are they? What are they made of? How large are they? (I live in Israel and not all doll making supplies are available so I am preparing to look for a substitute…)

Since you say they're for stuffing I'd guess they mean the polystyrene beads. Not for toys for very young children. If a hole were chewed the beads could pose a choking hazard. I used some in a sock monkey last year and found that some sifted through the sock material leaving little monkey pellets around the room. I like the bean bag feel of the finished toy but they were a bit of a pain...still vacuuming up a few that wandered off into corners of my shop.
Thanks. That's what I was hoping (I can get that type of filling). I too like the bean-bag like feel.
The only thing I am not sure about is weight. Before posting my question I searched the web for "doll bead" and came across several patterns for stuffed toys that mentioned using doll beads for weight. One pattern was a mushroom and I gather the beads are what helped it stay standing up (with a heavy foot and lighter top). Does that sound familiar?
