I am making a quilt out of squares of fabric that have been signed by wedding guests. The paint pen we used for signing says to “heat set” the messages. I assume this means pressing with a hot iron (fabric is 50% cotton, 50% poly.) I wonder if I should use steam or dry. Does anyone know anything about heat setting and what it involves? Thanks for any information.

The pen didn't come with instructions on how to heat set? If not you can heat seat a couple of different ways: a dry iron or in your clothes dryer. For a large quilt, I would probably heat set with a dry iron, otherwise the unset ink may rub agains another part of the quilt while in the dryer.
You may also check to see if the manufacturer of the pen has a web site and see if they post their specific instructions on line.

Thanks for your reply. The pen came from Walmart and is made by Hunt Corp. I couldn't find a website for them and there were no instructions on the pen. The quilt is not yet put together (still individual squares) so I'll try the dry iron on each square.
I'm guessing you press it with the painted side down and maybe use a press cloth.
Please do your experimenting on scraps, including whatever will happen to the quilt including washing if it will be washed.
Good suggestions - Thanks, I'll do it.
