When making a T-Shirt- which is better- clear elastic or cotton twill tape?

LindaLanglois | Posted in General Sewing Info on

Should I go with the stretch of the elastic or the stability of the cotton twill?  I saw in a recent article that clear elastic was used on the shoulder seams.  I have usually used cotton twill tape.  What are the pros and cons of each?

I think a lot of elastics are uncomfortable because it sticks to you and the clearer they get the worse they get. If they don't stick to you, then they are brittly hard.  I prefer lingerie elastic but that won't create the right theme for a T shirt.  I even thread lingerie elastic through casings for my shorts and skirts.  Thats why I prefer cotton twill.

Stabilizing with Clear Elastic or Twill Tape

I use neither.  Instead, I use a strip of the selvage.  No extra notions to purchase and the "stabilizer" will be the same color as the fashion fabric.
