Who wants to gather at Novi?

carolfresia | Posted in General Discussion on

I’m off to the American Sewing Expo in Novi next week, and wondered if anyone else is going. If so, would you like to gather for an informal chat over coffee? I’d love to put faces to names.

There’s a sort of food court area at the Expo hall, and I was thinking we could just choose a table (or three, depending) and meet there to get to know each other a little. My schedule is pretty full on Friday, so I propose Saturday at 10 a.m.

Anyone who’s interested, please let me know…and if you have any questions or are confused when you get to the expo, stop by the Threads booth and ask for directions.

I am going to be there but on Friday only.  I'll stop by the Threads booth.

P.S.  You suggested earlier I try Kwik Sew patterns as I try to learn to sew therefore I bought a flat-front zip pants pattern and a shirt pattern and plan to work with them.  Also bought the McCall's P&P camp shirt pattern.

Great! I'll be in the booth for part of Friday, but if you don't find me there when you stop by, ask whoever is there if they know the schedule.

I'm at the tail end of a Kwik Sew project myself--a jeans-style jacket. Although I significantly altered the way it's put together (I added a lining), I've been following along in the directions and they're really well done. Good luck with your patterns.

      Looking forward to meeting you...

Good idea!  I assume there will be donuts.     rjf

And maybe a little sign so we know which table to sit at?  Would they mind?

I'm hoping to have a sign at the table--I don't think they'll mind, and I even think that Janet Pray, who is the producer of the Expo, might stop by to chat as well. Carol Spier, the editer (in chief, although that title isn't used here) of Threads, plans to be there, as well as Jennifer Sauer, another assoc. editor. I've also invited Kayla Kennington, who's a well-known, prize-winning art-to-wear designer, to join us, and she'll try to attend. I've also extended an invitation to members of the Creative Machine Newsletter discussion group, and hope to meet some of them.

I'll have to work on the doughnuts...since I arrive very early and don't know where to find doughnuts in that area, I might deputize a local person more familiar with the pastry possibilities.

Just wanted to wish everyone a wonderful time in Novi!  When my stepbrother was out for my son's h.s. graduation this year I learned that he lives a commutable distance from the Novi expo center... I had free airfare and a free place to stay!!! I was all revved up to go but kept putting off registering... until it was too late airfare and registration wise, had other obligations for the kids... and now I know why it was a good thing I did, I'll be spending the time working on a homecoming dress for hard to fit DD, so it's good I'm not going to be away. Maybe next year... meanwhile have a GREAT time!!!Karen

      Hi, Louise,

I forget when the Toronto show takes place. I won't be there, but our contributing editor Barbara Emodi will, and she's great. Please stop by and introduce yourself.
