Hello everyone! I am making several dresses for two weddings coming up in April. I am happy with how the zippers are coming out – all except at the top of my seam. Where the zipper meets the neckline, it tends to bow out, away from the body, instead of laying flat. Do I need to move them down and use a hook and eye at the top. I’d like to avoid that but if I have to do it, I’d rather it look good and lay flat than “save the time”. Thanks for all your input

Are you absolutely sure that the zipper is sewn in straight at the top - that you didn't use a slightly smaller seam allowance there? Can you put a hook and eye behind the zipper?

I am using invisible zippers and an invisible zipper foot on my Viking Sewing machine. The foot allows me to set the seam allowance on the 5/8" mark on my stitch plate and the grooves in the foot guide the zipper exactly 5/8" away. I think the problem is the bulk at the top...and as I'm writing this, I wonder if I cut away some of the fabric bulk (from the fabric and the lining) and some of the top zipper tape if it wouldn't fix it. I'll have to try it. Any other ideas?

I love to put in invisible zippers and have had the same problem with bulk at the top. I almost always leave room for a hook and eye to finish the top. It just seems to work better for me. Eliminating bulk would probably help too.

Thank you so much. I can't wait to get up to my sewing room after lunch to see if that fixes it.
