    I love, love, Love embellishment techniques. I've been a fashion designer, sewist who created luscious things in all sizes, a costumer and the kid who introduced her family to the joy of the gusset. All things considered, the gusset speech was memorable if only for the looks on mother-sister's faces when I demonstrated how to adjust rise without questionable language, tears or promises to diet.

    Threads feeds my fevered addiction to fabric construction. It's a big job, but Threads makes it easy.

(The old song "Buttons and Bows" just came to mind.) You can imagine how proud I was to wear that dress to school (second grade) with a matching ribbon tied around the rubber band on my pony tail. Thank you for evoking such a lovely memory!!

  102. silkflowerlady | | #102

    What I could do with this book. I am always looking for something new to try and I have not done much with ribbon. My mother used to work with ribbon all the time. She made the most fund Christmas packages. It was more fun to see what she had created on the box than it was to see what was in it. There used to be a kind of ribbon that you could wet and it stuck to itself. She could do some really cool things with this ribbon. She had an instruction book that showed you how to layer it and twist it and make all sorts of pictures and shapes. I have not seen it in a long time and am not sure they even make it anymore. I am wondering if this ribbon book would have this in it. Good luck to all of you who have entered. Too bad only two people can win!

    I got to thumb through this book briefly at a show, it is a wonderful book!
    I do some ribbon work for clients, but would really love to take my work to the next level!

    Now, I'm using ribbons woven together to make a shoulder yoke for a client with very uneven shoulders. Fabric has not worked, because it BOTH lays badly, and looks clearly uneven. I'm hoping the woven ribbons will drape over her shoulder more smoothly, and also really hide the unevenness.

    Before its demise a year or two ago, I looked forward to my annual pilgrimage to Wright's factory outlet in Sturbridge, MA, where I collected something close to (my substantial) weight in ribbons! I've never minded my absurd stash, but this book looks like a natural way to help me trim it down--so now I'll *keep* a New Year's resolution! ;}

    I am in desperate need of some large ribbon ideas, I received a beautiful silk comforter from a friend after the dry cleaner ruined the areas where the comforter is secured through all layers I found some beautiful matching ribbon that will easily cover the area but the only patterns I have are for smaller ribbons my ribbon is about 1 1/2 inches in width. So far the only ideas I have been able to come up with are either rosettes, too small, or lengths of the ribbon sewn with the edges frayed, the comforter is burgundy and a greenish gold whereas the ribbon is greenish gold with burgundy as the weft.

    Life can be so funny!
    I'd just finished creating my first ever silk ribbon flower, without a pattern or real clue how to even start. Somehow it turned out pretty nicely so I will probably use it to make a headband or sweater embellishment for one of my girls. As soon as finished, I decided to check my Email and what do I find but this book! What a coincidence.I would LOVE to find out how a real pro goes about tackling these types of projects!!

    I'd love to win this book too. I have recently gotten interested in Origami and other paper crafts. Ribbon craft would be a great way to make embellishments for clothing.

    You know - this is really naughty - one of my New Year's resolutions is to finish what I've started, and then something like this comes up - a real Must Have! All these UFO's and then THIS BOOK - I Want it, I Need it, I Must Have it... Well, I think so, anyway, and it would look rather good on the table, and I would finish some UFO's before I get started on ribbon projects, just as soon as I've finished looking through the book - I promise...

    This is for the lady who is making the ribbon yoke for the woman with uneven shoulders. Why not put an appropriate shoulder pan on the low shoulder to bring it up to the level of the other shoulder? Just a thought. I know this was listed a long time ago and I hope the person rereads the comments.
