The Winkies’ outfits are made from Wool felt, just as the original costumes were. The pattern is a combination of a 3 layer circle skirt embellished with felt appliques; the jackets are a modified Civil War pattern. The jacket base is cotton, with the layers of wool felt sewn on top. The belt, “scarf” and tassels are all woolen yarn, either made into tassels or made on a circle knitter device. The “necklace” is wooden circles, with wool felt inserts. The hats are made from plastic flower pots, inverted with wooden supports to make the crown. THe lower sleeves are sweaters, cut and sewn as arm bracrs, the gloves are painted welding gloves. The spear heads are cut from thin plywood, with bases made from salt/pepper mills. The spear handle is closet pole. The entire costume is as accurate to the movie costume as we were able to make them. I used several photos from an auction site that had a costume for sale, as well as museum photos of the outfit.
