Sequin Boatneck Frankenpattern Top for the Oscars

Boatneck top from sequin-printed wool, lined in silk crepe de chine.

My husband works on the Oscars, so for 26 years, we’ve walked the Red Carpet. This year, I wanted to go vintage “Me-Made,” so I created a pattern for a “crushed” boatneck (a boatneck with a tuck in the shoulder, giving it some drape). I combined an original 60s dress pattern (for the neckline, shoulders and 3/4 sleeves with two darts), a 50s Lutterloh pattern for the waist darts and hips, and a Vogue pattern for the bustline and French darts. The fabric is an haute couture tromp l’oeil Italian wool with sequins printed on it, from Janssens et Janssens in Paris, and it’s lined with silk crepe de chine. I have gotten so much wear from this lightweight, luxurious top, and most recently wore it at an international bloggers meetup in Paris. Check out my blog at JetSetSewing.com for details.
