Fancy Fabrics Challenge 2014

Non-Traditional Wedding Gown

I designed this dress as part of a collections class at San Joaquin Delta College.  The strapless gown’s bodice is made of ivory bridal satin and fully boned and lined.  The lace overlay was completely hand-pieced from venise lace appliques, creating a custom fabric for this dress. The lace work took 80 hours alone.  There are 40 yards of tulle in 4 layers of the mermaid skirt/train.

this is such a gorgeous gown. I would love to learn how to make a dress like that. Did you make your own pattern? Or follow a pattern? I'd love more details. Just love it!

Although it was posted as being an alternative wedding gown, I think it could be worn to any red carpet event. Absolutely gorgeous!

Incredible! This gown is indeed a tour de force. I'd love to see more detail about the construction of the lace "fabric" from appliques. Do you have a blog where we can see your project?

Absolutely amazing! I love it when designers make their own textiles from an existing fabric, theirs are truly the most beautiful pieces out there and yours is no exception, well done!

I really admire your touch on this design with the trailing streamers of contrast lace running down the skirt. Well done!
