This is me, after the big annual party for work. I’m learning to fit patterns to myself, and it’s very challenging. This jacket may be my biggest success yet! I got SO many compliments from my colleagues about how elegant I looked that night.
It’s Vogue 1136, an unlined tucked jacket with a dress. I’m far from the ideal figure for it. Additionally, I chose a reversible brocade of semi-shiny teal on navy – a little stiffer than recommended but I think it still worked! It frayed like crazy while being sewn, and I may never clean the sewing area of teal wisps, but it was a great project and very rewarding. I also did 6 bound buttonholes, my second try a bound buttonholes (I got scared away after the first try because they are so fussy).
Now that the fitting is worked out, I think I’ll need to re-do at least the jacket in a more casual fabric so I can wear in more often – it felt great on!
If I ever sew another silver and light blue brocade anything, I will first attach a very light weight fusible pellon to it before I will even cut it. I almost did not have enough material left of the sleeveless top to hem it - it frayed that much. With a little ingenuity I made it work and it looked gorgeous. With a pollon lining, it probably would have wrinkled less. The more I sew, the more I find out how little I know about sewing.
