The inspiration for my daughter’s prom dress was…..my daughter! She loves the feminine look, but also wanted to incorporate her authentic style when it came to “prom time”. She also loves the color green and found it very challenging to find a green prom dress that looked both beautiful and fit her style. We started out by searching fabric stores and finally found an incredible fabric warehouse in Minneapolis MN that had a gorgeous green ombre fabric. Next, it was off to find some lace, and she LOVES black lace. She designed the dress she dreamed of on paper and I came up with the pattern for it. This wasn’t my first experience with creating a prom dress to my daughter’s dreams! I enjoy doing this kind of thing. Metal chain link and faux leather trim was added at the ruched side seam. I used twill tape all around the back of the bodice and placed eyelets to be laced together with black ribbon. Oops! The only surprise came when it was time to figure out how she would get into the dress. Wide ribbons coming to connect to the center ring (one via a Velcro closure!) provided the solution and lent to the edgy “metal” look of the dress.

The dress turned out to be the perfect edgy “metal” look my daughter was aiming for! She was so excited to go to prom (something she never thought she would do)! To top it off, we dyed her mohawk green and black to match, and black Doc Martin boots finished the look.
