Fall Poncho

Fall poncho

My new fall poncho using wool crepe and silk from my stash.  I modified Hot Patterns’s Jetsetter Poncho to eliminate bagginess at the hips and created faux bracelet length sleeves.  I stabilized the very wide neck with selvege from china silk.  Because both sides of the cowl would be visible, I used a French seam for the center back and a decorative ribbon in place of seam tape to keep the hem soft and flexible.  To highlight the front and back panels, I used a slotted seam treatment, with navy wool peeking through.  I used the same navy to trim the faux sleeves.  The lining was hand stitched to the garment seams (I wanted to avoid a loose lining that might bag).  Last, I added an elastic loop at the center back neckline to be able to hang the poncho on a hook without stretching the fabric.
