I had so much fun making this costume! It was my first attempt at drafting a pattern, and there are a few things I would do differently seeing it made up, but it fits reasonably well. I’m most proud of that skirt hem. I needed contrast trim at the hem to be true to the character’s design, and a stiffly draped skirt, so… I pieced the white satin onto the green, and used the completed pieces to draft an underlining. I lined the skirt in crinoline net to give it body, and edged it in 4″ horsehair braid. I then catch stitched the braid by hand to the underlining so the stitches wouldn’t show from the outside. Last, I edge stitched the white trim to add stability, and understitched the seam allowances under the V to help it lie flat. The flared, high/low sleeves were another challenge to draft, but exciting to design. I wish my skill at setting in sleeves/cuffs was better, but I think the result was acceptable for a costume. 🙂
