   Thats all well and good, but I have my pieces all cut and trimmed so I have all the pieces cut and pressed. I need a system to stack all the cut pieces and fold these to fit into the envelope.

   For folding a stack of cut pieces, you can use a long ruler to create your folds - place it where you want your fold, hold it down, and fold the stack over against the ruler.

   I just place cut and uncut pieces on top of one another and press flat with a dry iron. I then press new folds and it all goes back into the envelope. It has worked well for over 50 years!

   Looks easy when she does it, but I don't have a big, clear work space like that!

   I take each cut piece, iron it, fold it so that the pattern piece number is showing at the top, press again so that it's as flat as possible and stack the pieces together in numerical order before putting back in the pattern envelope. it's so much easier to find the pieces you need afterwards. With the larger sheets of several unused pattern pieces, I just iron out the folds, then re-fold in half, then quarters, etc. and press once again to make it as flat as possible to fit in the envelope.

   Once removed, cut and used, I lay out the largest piece and then layer the rest on top. Lay the folded instructions in the center as the guide, then start folding to a bit smaller than the size of the folded instructions. Taco style, place back into the envelope.

   When I haven't cut the pattern into pieces but have instead traced just my size, leaving the pattern piece intact, I look at it as if I were folding a map (remember those days before the advent of navigation on your car). As Judy says, just follow the folds. Using this method I can usually get the pattern relatively flat and back into the envelope. Of course if I've ironed it, all bets are off. I rarely cut my patterns if I'm tracing them, just so I can get the pattern put away. I work on 1-2 large mats on my dining room table.
